U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Qualifying continues through April 17, 2017

(October 2, 2016) -- Qualifying for the 2017 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball at Pinehurst No. 2 has been underway since the end of August and the field for next May's tournament is beginning to take shape.

One of the more notable teams to qualify so far is the Carlsbad, CA high school duo of Dylan Menante (14 years-old) and Ryan Smith (15-years-old). The pair finished with medalist honors after they fired a bogey-free, seven birdie 7-under 64 at Vista Valley Country Club on Columbus. Starting on the 10th hole the pair combined for four birdies, including three in a row from Nos. 11-13 to turn in 4-under 31. They continued the strong play with three additional second nine birdies to close in 3-under 33.

Two of the top players in California --Tim Hogarth and Corby Segal-- have punched their ticket as well. Hogarth and Segal teamed to shoot a flawless 10- under 61 at Spring Valley Lake and Country Club in Victorville, CA. Hogarth has had a successful 2016 that saw him pick up wins at the Southern California Match Play and Kelly Cup. He also has years of experience in USGA events, most notably finishing as the runner-up in the 2010 U.S. Mid-Amateur.

Segal has a proven track record as well both regionally and national. This past spring Segal won the 2016 Southern California Mid-Amateur and in 2012 he made a run to the U.S. Mid-Amateur quarterfinals.

Also among the early qualifiers is 2013 U.S. Senior Amateur winner and the top-ranked senior in the AmateurGolf.com Rankings Doug Hanzel at The Reserve Golf in Pawleys Island, SC. Teamed with Bob Royak the duo shot a bogey-free 7-under 65 to share medalist honors. Royak has had a strong 2016 making it to the Round of 16 at the U.S. Senior Amateur and finishing fourth at the Gasparilla Invitational.
